Our Squads
At Bristol North, we are able to offer a number of squads to allow swimmers to develop thought their swimming journey. We have 5 Squads as well as a youth masters and a Masters squad for those who are over 18 and wish to continue their swimming journey.
Our squads work through a structured annual training programme developed by our Head Coach and wider coaching team. The programme develops swimming technique, prepares our swimmers for competition, and develops fitness and endurance across all strokes. Training frequency, duration, and intensity increase as swimmers progress through the squads.
Swimmers enter from Swim Development or outside of BNSC into Squad 5 typically when they are aged between 7 and 10 years, and progress through to our top Squad 1. Progress is tracked through individual progress reports to measure achievement against the squad goals. When the goals are met, it's time to move up!
As we are a competitive club, it is expected that all squad swimmers compete. This can be very frightening for new, particularly younger swimmers, and so we have many events on the annual calendar to make this transition easier.
We based and train within a number of pools in the north of Bristol from Sunday to Friday inclusive, depending on squad. Get in touch to find out our current timetable and prices.

Our Coaching Team
We are the only club in Bristol to offer four Swim England Level 3 coaches within our team, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to every squad and swimmer.
Our level 3 coaches lead a committed group of volunteer teachers and coaches made up from our Masters squad, parents, and the wider swimming community. Several of our volunteer coaches have achieved their qualifications through the club and we continue to invest in their training within and outside of the club to build experience and, in turn, help our swimmers improve performance.
Director of Swimming
Malcolm saw early on the value of having a well run and well organised Club so that the coaching team could give the best to their swimmers.
Head Coach
She has taught swimming at Filton Sports Centre and Splash Happy Swim School, and was a lead coach at Severnside Tritons Swimming Club for many years, progressing to Deputy Head Coach at Southwold Swimming Club before we were lucky to have her lead our coaching team.
